Ice Ice Baby – Possible Significant Impact

I put ice twice in the title because we may have a possibility of two rounds of ice over a week and a half time frame. It has been a while since we have dealt with any ice. We will talk about that shortly. Here is our current Blue Springs Weather. As of 7:50 pm, the temperature is at 30.2°. Pressure is sitting at 30.02 inches and steady. Winds are out of the NNW at 9 mph. The relative humidity is at 81%. The dew point is at 27°. The skies are hazy.

Cold and Breezy

Make sure you dress for the environment tomorrow. The winds will be about 15 mph tomorrow, right at kick-off.

HRRR Wind Gusts 5 pm.

Conclusion

Tomorrow evening we will be getting it. If you are coming up from the South from the Adrian area and 49 highway, you will be dealing with some tomorrow morning around 8 am. Jackson County will be dealing with ice tomorrow night with a start time of 7 pm and will move north, where the rest of the county will be covered by 8 pm. Tomorrow temperature will be around 22° give or take, by 4 pm.

In the second round, if it holds out, is on Wednesday February 8th and it may be more debilitating. The Ice accumulation amounts may be as high as 0.21 inches for Jackson County. That is enough ice to cause serious driving issues, fallen trees, and power outages. Keep in mind that this particular time is a week and a half out, and it will have plenty of time to change.

That is pretty much it for today. Take care, everyone, and be safe tomorrow. MP.

Ice accumulations will be enough to be annoying on the streets, at .04 inches.

MODEL DISCUSSION

Models are showing a possible chance for Trace precipitation (rain) off and on throughout the day with no major accumulations. According to the rapid refresh(RAP) model, it shows snow starting in about midnight Wednesday and ending by 1am Thursday October 31st. Snow amounts are still questionable. They’re showing snow amounts from 3 to 4.6 inches. I am not sure where the National Weather Service gets their information. It could be the European model at this time, but I am not sure.

That is pretty much it for today. Hopefully by this afternoon late we will get a pretty good idea of what’s going to happen. Hopefully models will start to cooperate. So far I have not been impressed.

MODEL DISCUSSION

Current models show a misty drizzly day today. With measurable amounts happening around 3pm or so. Rain will continue into the evening hours. By about 10pm we will receive rain snow mix. The system should be out by midnight or so. Snow amounts overnight about 1 in according to the models. Snow will start back up by 4am on Halloween, increasing snow amounts to 1.9 inches total over those couple of days. That would be a more accurate reading 12 inches that GFS is predicting. Regardless we will have some measurable amount of snow. As we draw closer to Halloween we will get a more favorable amount of snow totals. As for the ice possibilities looks like we may get a trace in Jackson County area, not sure if it will be in Blue Springs or not around 10am Tuesday.

That is about it for today, be safe driving to and from work. Till next time.

October 27th 2019 Forecast

Got the generator out and tested it, added some fuel stabilizer to the fuel. Put up a few Halloween decorations. Though I think they will be buried in the snow on the 31st. We may end up with candy left over, if we ever get any trick-or-treaters. It is going to be a very cold day on the 31st.

MODEL DISCUSSION

Lots of things going on in the models this coming week. Starting with tonight we have a small system that will be coming in by about 9pm bringing some Trace rain, increasing throughout the day Monday and into Tuesday morning. There could be a possible rain snow mix around 10pm Monday. The entire system should end by about 4am Tuesday morning. Another system kicks back up about 1am Wednesday morning, with a possible mix of rain and snow starting off. Then a bout of ice at about 10pm Wednesday night then shifting over to snow throughout the day Halloween. It also looks like temperatures will not reach above upper thirties throughout the day. Temperatures really start to tank as the sun goes down, with temperatures dipping to the low 20s. Snow accumulations are still pretty weird and I don’t trust them. Once again they are showing 6 to 7 inches of snow in our area. It is still really too far out anyways. models are staying pretty consistent that we are going to get some snow.

I would at least have some calcium chloride and your snow shovel and or snowblower ready and easily accessed. If you have a fireplace make sure you got plenty of wood, because it looks like we will be in winter temperatures sooner than expected.

have a great day of worship if that’s what you do. Enjoy your day today and be careful.
